Taking a look at the Year 2010, we will find that it has completely portrayed a different picture of the Sporting World. Be it cricket, football or tennis all have experienced a series of upsets, most of which were really unexpected. As a result, these upsets have led to the Underdog rising, meaning all the top teams and players failed miserably while the unseeded players with their phenomenal performances won the hearts of many.
In the cricketing world a couple of upsets such as England wining to Australia in the one day series 3-2 and then defeating Australia in the T20 World Cup Final to win the title shocked cricketing fans all over the world.
Secondly some upsets also rocked the tennis courts this year. Roger Federer the World No 2 lost to Unseeded Thomas Berdvich in the Wimbeldon Championships and was knocked out of the tournament.
However the biggest upset occurred in the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Teams such as France Italy and Brazil which were considered the Favourites failed to reach even the Quarter Final stages of the event and teams like Holland reached the Finals.
These events leave us to think whether it’s the beginning of a new era? Or its an end to a new beginning?
